Southwestern Elementary - Right to Read Week

March 12, 2008

3rd grade

Mrs. Woodyard's and Mrs. Prose's classes

You were so fun, attentive, and helpful.  Each of you added to our paragraph and discussion.  Wow!  Did you figure out the quilt picture before I showed you?  Did you tell your teachers the secret?  They will probably be surprised to hear it!

4th grade

Mr. Burnett's and Mrs. Steven's classes

Whoa!  Did you have fun creating our fictional narrative?  Alligators, natives, a fisherman, and an anaconda - I didn't think that my dog, Beau (Bo), and I would ever get out of that creek!  Thanks for a great time and your enthusiastic participation.

Ohio Valley Christian School Fourth Grade - Tall Tales Unit

February 4-12, 2008

What a great week!  Your books are amazing!  I'm so proud of each of you!

Southwest Licking Schools - November 2007

Thank you Southwest Licking Schools for allowing me a chance to visit and share with your wonderful and talented teachers and students. I've come to expect a great experience whenever I meet with you, and this trip was no exception. You are all awesome!

Many students were interested in writing for the upcoming Chicken Soup Cat Lover's Soul and/or the Chicken Soup Dog Lover's Soul. Other titles you might be interested in are: Football Lover's Soul, Extraordinary Teen Soul, and Celebrating Life's Most Embarassing Moments. All of these deadlines are December 31, 2008. Submit them on-line at http://www.chickensoup.com/. So, get writing, editing, and submitting. Keep me posted!

Watkins Middle School
To Mrs. Legg's sixth grade and Mrs. Ball's sixth and eighth grade classes: You were an awesome audience, full of creativity and imagination. Many of you are very gifted writers. Learn to perfect that gift and share it with others. I can't wait to see where you'll go and what you'll do in this world!

Kirkersville Elementary
Mrs. Lupidi's and Mrs. Frey's 4th grade - Your enthusiasm is contagious! The 'Reread, edit, write some more' cheer is still one of my favorites. Thanks for doing it for me. I really enjoy visiting classes with lots of questions because then I know we cover what's important to you. You all had a bunch of them! If your question didn't get answered, please drop me an email. Your love of reading and writing is apparent. Keep it up!

Mrs. Genter's 3rd grade - We had an extended time together - first you listened to me, and then I got the privilege of listening to your stories. How creative you are! Even with a surprise lock-down drill in the middle, you were all so courteous. Keep learning and improving your reading and writing skills because you have been blessed with knowledge and imagination. Thank you for a great afternoon!

Addaville Elementary

May 17, 2007

Even with construction everywhere in and around this building, I found the teachers, staff, and students to be friendly, helpful, organized, and flexible.  Thanks for a GREAT day!

Kindergarten - Wow!  You guys were right!  That quilt was not a dinosaur.  Thanks for helping me figure it out with all of those great sentences.

1st grade - You were awesome listeners!  You caught on to the Spanish game quickly.  Wasn't that fun?  Your teachers were able to do it really well too.  Do you still remember some of the words?

2nd grade - Great questions and participation!  Wow!  Congratulations to all of my friends who guessed the quilt picture correctly.  I think the whole school might have heard your cheers!  Did you finally get your bookmarks?

3rd grade - You are the first class I've ever met that loves to edit . . . Are you sure?!  Our autograph session at the end was fun too.  I've got some new names to add to my idea file.  Yay!

4th grade - You had amazing questions.  I'm glad we had extra time together.  If you have any questions that did not get answered, just e-mail me.  I'll gladly respond.

Etna Elementary - April 26, 2006

Fourth grade

It was great to see all of you again!  As usual, you kept me hopping with your questions and excitement.  Thank you!  Remember the deal we made . . . you finish your stories and papers using your editing skills, and I'll finish my bear.  We sure don't want your papers looking like my bear!  You are doing well with your Spanish too.  I hope you continue with that.  It was cool to see that your class is reading the same book series as my kids and I are.  How fun!  Keep reading and writing!

Thanks for your help in figuring out what an author does with each piece of equipment I brought.  Have faith in yourselves - you can do whatever you set your mind to.  Thank you for letting me be a small part of your journey.

Kirkersville Elementary - Mrs. Betts' 1st Grade

You guys were great listeners!  I really enjoyed meeting you and sharing time together.  :)

Etna Elementary

3rd grade - Your excitement and ideas were amazing!  You really came up with a lot of possibilities for our unsolved mystery.  I'll never forget how stunned I was at hearing the words, 'copyright infringement,' out of your fellow classmate.  Keep writing - you are all very creative!

5th grade - Did you enjoy hearing the first chapter of the new book?  Not many people have heard or read it yet.  I enjoyed spending my day with you and hearing your many ideas about what would happen next.

Ohio Valley Christian School - Fifth Grade - May 18, 2005

We shared an awesome meal at El Toril, and then we spent the rest of the afternoon together.  That was a first for me - an hour and a half school talk.  Wasn't it great?  You certainly gave me a lot of ideas for future story plots.  What a creative class!  I love you all,  Sra. Blevins

Hey, third, fourth, and fifth graders!  Did you enjoy our time together as much as I did?  We worked through the writing process pretty quickly with that quilt.  Don't you wish that all of your writing projects could go that fast?  Follow the same procedure though.  Remember to write and rewrite, and rewrite, and rewrite.

Let's be 'Wild about Reading' together!

4th grade - Thanks for the great questions!  Warn me if you ever really meet that scary guy named, Bob, you created.  Surprise mail arrived for me . . . Thank you for the thoughtful letters!  :)

2nd grade - This class was at the very end of their long, school day, but you couldn't tell.  The kids were wonderful!  Thank you for the excitement and the great job you did listening and talking with your visitor.

1st grade - What great listeners you are!  Your excitement and smiling faces are so awesome!  Thanks for waving to me throughout the day.  Remember how much fun we had creating four sentences about our quilt.  Do the same thing each time you write!
